I don't know why I found this funny...

... but I did. I think it was the audience's reaction to this situation.

And, oh yeah, it's got some unawesome words in it. But you kids are mature and won't click unless you're completely responsible for your own decisions...

Feast of St. Cecilia

Today is one of my favourite Feast Days, having as I do a number of family and friends under St. Cecilia's patronage. I took the picture of St. Cecilia in glory this May from a rather awkward position inside the Basilica of St. Cecilia in Rome. As you may imagine, my photography skills don't do justice to one of the most beautiful ceiling in the Eternal City (especially because I couldn't figure out how to make the whole picture fit in the post. When I took the photo, I didn't actually cut anything out.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!

Happy Birthday Meghan Barylak!

"Man Gave Names To All the Animals" (A Bob Dylan Song)

Well my internet is back... but very slow and on a completely different note Joseph De Maistre is Awesome!

So is, "God and Society: An Essay on the Generative Principle of Political Constitutions and other Human Institutions" which he wrote.

Here is some fodder for thought:

Maistre says:

"God calls Himself I AM, and every creature call itself I am that. The name of a spiritual being is necessarily relative to its action, which is its distinctive quality. ... Have men, formed in God's image, found a more solemn way to reward victors in battle than by giving them a new name, the most honorable of all in human estimation, that of the vanquished nation? Each time that a man's life is supposed to change and take on a new character, thus often does he receive a new name. This is true in baptism, confirmation, enlistment of soldiers, entrance into a religious order, liberation of slaves, etc. In a word, the name of every being explains what he is, and there is nothing arbitarary about it. The common expression, he has a name, he doesn't have a name, is quite true and expressive. No man may be ranked among those who in the time of assembly were called by name unless his family is marked by a sign which distinguishes it from all others." (70-71)

~ awesome (Honorific Title: Jaquith for "Inspiring Awe") SEAN (Surname: Celtic for "John" or "God's Grace"; John is Herbrew for "the Lord is Gracious") FRANCIS (Baptismal Name: Latin for "Frenchman" or "Free (man)" ) MICHAEL (Confirmation Name: Hebrew for "Who is Like God") McNally (Familial Name: Celtic, meaning literaly "The Son of Nally" Also: "The Son of a Poor Man" or "The Son of the King")

A.S. I only wish Ockham felt this way...

A.A.S. Domenic I am writing my Scotus paper on Individuation and my Ockham paper on Universals, so I can answer your quandry in full over Thanksgiving... the short answer is ... you know what, the short answer is complicated (this aspect is Scotus) and a pile of poopie (this aspect is Ockham).

A.A.A.S. Davy did you ever get your gift?

A.A.A.A.S. Speaking of names, "NADE!!!!" LOL! That one gets me everytime! Ha!

Are Hoovooloo's members of a species?

Since matter is the principle of individuation (not of individuality but of individuation), do Hoovooloos have what it takes to be individuals within a species, like men, or must we say that each hoovooloo, like each angel, is his own species?
Consider, the essence of a hoovooloo is to be a hyperintelligent pan-dymensional shade of the colour blue.
Would a particular hoovooloo be identical this essence, or does it have anything belonging to itself so as to set it apart from its essense? There is no matter in its definition. But there is an accident the definition (shade of the colour blue). So, are hoovooloos like angels or like men? What do you, my fellow Douglas Adams fans, think?

Kidnapping? Not Awesome. Losing Mr. Left? Definitely Not Awesome.

Yahoo! News:

Man accidentally shoots himself in groin

WICHITA, Kan. - A botched kidnapping ended with one of the assailants shooting himself in the groin, Wichita police said. The man had just stuck the gun back into his waistband when it fired, shooting him in the left testicle.

He cringed, causing the gun to fire again and strike him in the left calf.

When the shooting ended, the 23-year-old man managed to walk himself into the hospital for treatment, police said. He and his two accomplices, ages 18 and 20, were arrested for aggravated attempted kidnapping and conspiracy to obstruct justice.

The men were attempting to kidnap a teen in a dispute over stereo speakers, police said.

Don Juan of Austria is Awesome

And I just got a novel by Louis de Wohl on Awesome Don Juan of Austria entitled "The Last Crusader". Very Awesome.
Perhaps this entry is a little too obvious.

Toronto here I come!

Possibly the most useless "how to" article EVER.

"Do you feel lucky, punk?"

I have to admit that one of my regular internet addictions (as opposed to the sporadic ones) is reading WikiHow. Normally the How-To's are interesting, but sometimes they are just hilariously useless. The one for today, however, takes the cake:

How to Regain Control of a Spooked Camel

In some parts of North Africa and the Middle East, the camel remains the primary means of long-distance transportation. These remarkable animals are intelligent and strong, and they possess incredible endurance. They can also be quite fast: some camels can briefly attain speeds up to 40 miles per hour (64 km/h). While their speed makes them ideal for racing—camel races are very popular in many parts of the world—it can provide a camel rider with a harrowing, potentially deadly experience if a camel is spooked or otherwise begins to run out of control.

W... T... and an F.
Oh, and btw, this might be of interest to Dave and Sean: "How to Enjoy Dubai."
Trick question, you can't.

Hic, ille, alii...

Let the Awesomeness begin.

"Hall of Awesome?"

I propose we make a list of official awesomeness (inspired by a post on 'stranger than fiction')!

An 'Awesome Friend' proposes a Album, Movie, Game, Book, etc. ... then another "AF" must second the motion. If a majority vote is found the motion passes and 'id' is reconized as 'officially awesome.' We can do the same for things that are not awesome.

This method would only be for controversial topics... we all know the Bible, the Pope, the Eucharist, Brideshead Revisited, Saint Michael, and the Blessed Virgin Mary are all awesome so no reason to vote on them.

But is Ezra Pound awesome? Jude the Obscure? Thom Peters? Solitare? Saruman? Enya?

A.S. Can you tell I am studying Latin?

Truly, life is Stranger than Fiction (and Awesome)

Dave, Tree and I went to see Stranger than Fiction last night. I decided to write a little essay about the movie which I've posted to American Papist here. If any of you have seen the movie I'd love to hear your thoughts about it. If you haven't seen the movie - go see it. It's worth it.

Awesomeness over-and-out.

The election is driving everyone to drink (but hopefully not drink and drive)

Agreed.

Revealed:

Now that the election is behind us, and the Democrats control both houses of Congress, there's no reason not to admit it: the Right was right about us all along. Here is our 25-point manifesto for the new Congress:

2. Drug-filled condoms in schools

3. Introduce the new Destruction of Marriage Act

4. Border fence replaced with free shuttle buses

5. Osama Bin Laden to be Secretary of State

6. Withdraw from Iraq, apologize, reinstate Hussein

7. English language banned from all Federal buildings

8. Math classes replaced by encounter groups [I am okay with this one!]

9. All taxes to be tripled

10. All fortunes over $250,000 to be confiscated

11. On-demand welfare

12. Tofurkey to be named official Thanksgiving dish

13. Freeways to be removed, replaced with light rail systems [not bad either... buy me a car!]

14. Pledge of Allegiance in schools replaced with morning flag-burning

15. Stem cells allowed to be harvested from any child under the age of 8

16. Comatose people to be ground up and fed to poor

17. Quarterly mandatory abortion lottery

18. God to be mocked roundly

19. Dissolve Executive Branch: reassign responsibilities to UN

20. Jane Fonda to be appointed Secretary of Appeasement

21. Outlaw all firearms: previous owners assigned to anger management therapy

23. Ban Christmas: replace with Celebrate our Monkey Ancestors Day

24. Carter added to Mount Rushmore

25. Modify USA's motto to "Land of the French and the home of the brave"

Snakes in a Church: the sequel?

They first gave us "Snakes on a Plane," now what we all have been waiting for, "Snakes in a Church" based on actual, real, not fake, but historical events! [The captions I added and are how the fim will be casted and shot at certain locations]:

"A woman [Played by a Hilary Clinton-look-alike or a Jenifer Granholm] who was bitten by a snake [played by the Godfrey, the snake in Anaconda] at a church [The Celebrity Scientologist Center] that neighbors [Slyvester Stalone and his gay-partner Danny DeVito] say practices serpent handling died of her wounds [many snake bites to the face and genitalia] hours later, a newspaper [the American Papist Blog Site] reported.
...
Long [Granholm or Clinton] died at University of Kentucky Medical Center [The AMU Campus, and there will also be alot of snakes here as well, demons, crocodiles, dinosaurs, and telitubbies] about four hours after being bitten [and exploded], authorities [guys with British accents, it will sound more believable] told the newspaper.

"She said she was bitten by a snake at her church," said Lt. Ed Sizemore [maybe Mel Gibson?] of the Laurel County Sheriff's Office [A Mayan Ziggurat].

Handling reptiles as part of religious services [Voodoo Magic] is illegal in Kentucky [Communist Russia or Nazis Germany]. Snake handling is a misdemeanor [that is a method of bringing back ancient undead mummies] and punishable by a $50 to $100 fine [Death by Buru].

Police said they had not received any reports of snake handling at the church [because the snakes killed everyone, except the hero, Charlemagne, played by Pope Benedict XVI, who after his victory is assumed into Heaven on a Fiery Steam Boat].

Snake handling [the ancient ritual named above] is based on a passage in the Bible [the Necromanical Book of Ultimate Evil, or the AMU Mission Statement] that says a sign of a true believer [Muslim Terrorist] is the power to "take up serpents" without being harmed [anything really, really, gross].

Church officials [Thom Cruise, Katie Holmes, and John Travolta] could not be reached for comment [They later die in horrible ways, but only after Stalone and his partner are killed by the ancient mummified snake brought back from the dead]."

"I will have a cameo shot as Jesus or St. Peter welcoming Charlemagne [P. Benedict] into Heaven [An Old Irish Pub]."

So that is the movie...

I want to see it already!

~awesome sean

A.S. On a serious note it is too bad that she died... apparently she was not a true believer. The important thing is that now we know!

I'm getting drunk.

Let The Healing Begin

It has come to my attention that one of the Awesome Friends might have an addiction to youtube.com... lets call that person "Thomas P.", wait that might be too specific lets try, "T. Peters"... no that does not work either how about, "The Nade." Yeah thats better.

If the issue is not addressed it is only a matter of time until you become this guy:

It make me large joy this seeing that the Borat - he want make naked and wrestle much:

(it make me mad that youtube - it work like woman trying make math in head!)

A once-awesome (wo?)man

Access Hollywood got an exclusive interview with Michael Jackson who is now living - surprise, surprise - in Ireland:

Part 1: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G5w1kPs0GnA

Part 2: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1tM2pPppEXU

Part 3: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nkkCT5VLE9g

(sorry I couldn't imbed the videos something is wrong with the pages)

Don't expect anything great (let alone awesome). But I did like one line of Jackson's: "I'm always writing a potpourri of music..." (because the way he says it, the line sounded more like, "I'm always writing a popery of music...").

More Austria Pics You Say?

I call this one, "The Better Bugos." As it is better than Domenic's Pic, mainly because it has Thom and I in it.

And now for something completely different

Taking a break from re-runs of Sean and Thom's favourite show, I went to Oklahoma last weekend with Matt Kinney and Bronwyn O'Jack for the purpose of attending Katherine Bugos' wedding. All went along well except that Katherine ceasing to be Bugos, our object of being at Katherine Bugos' wedding was thwarted. Well, we gave it a shot.
I had not actually seen or spoken with the aforementioned newly wed since Austria. And in keeping with that tradition I didn't speak with her much last weekend. I did however visit extensively with other members of Austria crew Sean, Thom and I enjoyed, specifically those featured in this picture. Moncia Williams was there as well.
Rebecca Moses was another character present who I had not seen since freshman year. Does else remember her? She is driving an ambulance these days while applying to medical school. I'd not have guessed.
Looking at your blog this week, Thom, and its links to LifeSite News reminds me that John Jalsevic was at the wedding, and he had the distinction of being the first fellow in a while that I've treated to discussion on T.S. Eliot. You probably know that LifeSite News is Jalsevic's dad's publication.
Anyways, it was a fun weekend.
